💖 DEVOTIONAL:
"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." - Isaiah 43:19 (NIV)
Ever felt like a creative lameness has taken hold of your journey, leaving you stranded in stagnation? It's a sentiment known to many—an artistic journey once vibrant now feeling confined, unable to move forward. Yet, just as Jesus made the lame walk, He possesses the power to awaken even the most dormant creativity within you!
Imagine a painter's palette, its colors waiting for life to be breathed back into them. There are times when the hues seem faded, the canvas untouched, almost as if the brush has forgotten its purpose. Like a painter who's become creatively stagnant, you might feel stuck, unable to put your vision into motion. But take heart, for Jesus is in the business of restoration. Just as He gave new strength to the legs of the lame, He can infuse your artistic endeavors with fresh life.
Are your words held captive in a silent cell, much like a poet without a voice? Picture the liberation Jesus brought when He unsealed the tongues of the mute. He can also unseal your creativity, setting free the verses that have been dormant within you. As you surrender your thoughts to Him, He can transform them into lines that resonate with both beauty and truth.
Consider a musician whose melody has been suppressed, a melody yearning to break free from its silence. Just as Jesus gave voice to the mute, He can also revive the melodies within your heart, encouraging you to sing once more. When your soul's song aligns with His grace, your music can flow like a river, bringing renewal to your surroundings.
Amidst creative stagnation, it's easy to believe the season will never change. Yet, remember that our God is a wellspring and a river—able to turn desolation into abundance. Just as He transformed a dry rock into a source of flowing water for the Israelites in the wilderness, He can also transform your creative wilderness into a fertile land of innovation. His Spirit can breathe life into your artistry, satisfying your thirst for fresh ideas and rejuvenating your enthusiasm.
As we yearn for a revival of creativity, let us fix our gaze on the One who makes all things new. Jesus is eager to take the barren spaces of our creativity and fill them with streams of inspiration. So, if you've felt the weight of creative stagnation, remember that Jesus is the source of unending renewal. Just as He brings life to the paralyzed, He can breathe life into your art, infusing it with purpose, beauty, and the limitless creativity of the Creator Himself.
🙏 PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, we approach You with hearts longing for a creative revival. We acknowledge that our gifts and passions come from You. When our creative journey becomes stagnant, remind us that You are the ultimate Source of inspiration. Just as You restored movement to the lame, restore movement to our creativity. Awaken our dormant passions, renew our vision, and rekindle our joy in creating. Help us to surrender our creative stagnation to You and trust in Your ability to turn desolation into abundance. May our artistry reflect Your glory and grace. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
🤔💭 APPLICATION:
Is there a specific area of your creative journey where you've felt stuck or stagnant? How can you invite Jesus to bring a revival to that aspect of your creativity? Take a moment to offer your creative struggles to God and ask Him to reinvigorate your passion and innovation.
💡 TIP OF THE WEEK:
✍️ Daily Doodling: Incorporate a few minutes of doodling into your daily routine. You don't need to be an illustrator to enjoy this practice. It's about unstructured creation—letting your pen or pencil glide across the page without judgment. Doodling engages different parts of your brain, sparking connections you might not have encountered otherwise. Remember, creativity knows no boundaries, and this simple practice can be a gateway to renewed inspiration, regardless of your creative medium.
Hey, creatives!👋
I've recently started practicing morning pages, drawing inspiration from Julia Cameron’s book, "The Artist’s Way." Morning pages involve a simple writing routine where you fill three pages with whatever comes to mind, without worrying about perfection or logic – think of it as a brain dump. These pages serve as a private conversation with yourself, helping you clear your mind, shed worries, and ignite creative ideas. It's akin to a mental warm-up that sets a positive tone for your day. Remember, you're not writing for an audience; it's a personal practice to start the morning with a fresh, open mind.
I've only been engaging in this practice for less than a week, and I'm already witnessing its positive impact on my creativity. It's a somewhat meditative process, something I've struggled to maintain in recent months.
If you're on the lookout for an insightful read to aid you on your creative journey, Julia Cameron’s book is an excellent recommendation. While I haven’t completed the book yet – it's designed as a 12-week course – I'm enthusiastic about sharing the discoveries and insights I'll encounter along the way.

Hey Brian, I’m also currently reading “The Artist’s Way” and practicing morning pages! I find that I’m only able to complete the morning pages on days when I’m not working (simply because I have more time in the morning on these days.) looking forward to hear your insights and sharing! God bless you and have a wonderful week ahead!
