Hey, creatives! 👋
I hope you like poetry because this week’s newsletter is going to be a little different from our usual drop! First off, I didn’t write a devotional this week. Instead, I'll be sharing a poem that I wrote and performed during our Creative Team Night at church last Thursday. At the event, I discussed how a friend imparted a revelation she gained after revisiting the creation story in Genesis, and how that revelation ultimately motivated me to compose this poem.
I've included a recording of me reading the piece during the event. Hopefully, it sparks something in you to turn your own stories and experiences into beautiful pieces of art as well. Enjoy!
Make Space
Once,
I found myself inside a box.
In it, I sat on a chair.
And in front of me,
on the other side of a glass table, there sat a dove.
“What is this place?” I ask.
For a moment, the dove was silent,
but I could see in her eyes, she was wise.
“It’s a space,” she replies,
“A space made for this exact conversation
a station of divine orchestration”
And she wasn’t wrong.
She was a messenger with a song.
And without hesitation, she sang her revelation,
“You see, creation isn’t just narration.
It was a beautiful illustration
to the purpose of this location.
It’s a space,
a foundation
for creative collaboration
to flourish.”
Before the Creator spoke life into entire ecosystems
He breathed space into existence
The land, the oceans, the grounds
Before the grand commotions and sounds of life
He made the night and the light of day
He set the stage for the play
A place, we could say, we could bloom
This was a room for the bride, prepared by the groom
For the bride is an artist just like her Father
This is why we are here,
This is why we are making space.
For the flowers in our hearts to bloom into words
For the birds to find a safe space to sing their songs
For the herds who never heard of songs
The grass longs for something beautiful to dance to
And so we make space
A garden we could regard in
A space we should be guarding
from the envy of the enemy
who longs only to steal, kill, and destroy
the dreams, the songs, the poems in your heart
waiting to be unfurled,
waiting to be birthed and shared to the world.
This is our space.
We are pigeons on our perch.
We’re a church in search of a tree
but we are the ones who were found.
One day,
When you find yourself inside a box
And in front of you, you meet a dove.
Tell her, thank you for singing your heart in this unrehearsed space.
It’s the reason this poem was written in the first place.
Do you like listening to spoken word poetry? Tell us what you think of the piece! We’d love to hear your thoughts. 🥰

I love spoken word. I have performed on many occasion. I consider myself a poet first. And as an artist I just say I’m putting poetry in motion, but all my art tends to start with a poem, even if it’s just a poem of the heart.
I think this piece you have shared serves a beautiful reminder to us all. Both in our living and in our relationship with TMH and His creation and it’s an awe inspiring reminder of Who He is, both of His hand and His face. Dove
