💖 DEVOTIONAL:
"But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong." - 1 Corinthians 1:27 (ESV)
If you've ever felt inadequate or unqualified, you're in good company. The Bible is full of stories about people who seemed like the least likely candidates for God's work. Moses stuttered. Martha was a worrier. Abraham was too old. David was too young. Jonah ran from God. Jeremiah was depressed and suicidal. Peter was afraid of death. Lazarus was actually dead.
God doesn't call the qualified. He qualifies the called. When God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses protested that he was not eloquent and was slow of speech and tongue. But God assured Moses that He would be with him and would teach him what to say (Exodus 4:10-12). Despite his shortcomings, Moses became one of the greatest leaders in history because God equipped him for the task.
Similarly, consider David, a young shepherd boy who was anointed to be king. On the surface, David didn't have the qualifications one might expect for royalty. But God saw his heart and knew that David had what it took to lead His people. David's courage and faith in God allowed him to defeat Goliath and eventually become a man after God's own heart.
God's calling always comes with a promise: His presence and power. When Jesus called Peter to walk on water, Peter was terrified and began to sink. But Jesus immediately reached out His hand and caught him (Matthew 14:28-31). It wasn't Peter's ability that mattered, but his willingness to step out in faith.
If you ever feel unqualified or overwhelmed by what God is calling you to do, remember that you're not alone. God delights in using ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. He looks beyond our flaws and sees our potential. When we trust Him and step out in faith, He provides the strength and ability we need.
You might feel like a Martha, worried and distracted, or like a Jeremiah, burdened and sorrowful. But God can use your unique story and your weaknesses to display His power and grace.
🙏 PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing us despite our flaws and limitations. Help us to trust in Your power to equip us for the tasks You call us to. May we find courage in Your strength and wisdom in Your guidance. Use our weaknesses to display Your greatness. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
💡 TIP OF THE WEEK:
😰 Reflect on a task or calling that you feel unqualified for. Write down your fears and inadequacies, then pray over them, asking God to equip you and provide you with the strength and resources you need. Take one small step of faith towards that calling this week, trusting that God will guide and empower you.
