BOOST #106: The Silent Killer of Creativity (And How to Defeat It) 🗡️
Plus, a no-nonsense tip to push past creative stagnation
💖 DEVOTIONAL:
"Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord." — Romans 12:11 (ESV)
Jim Carrey once wrote himself a check for $10 million for "acting services rendered." He dated it five years in the future and carried it in his wallet as a reminder to keep going. By the time that date arrived, he had landed Dumb and Dumber and was making far more than he had imagined. What made the difference? He didn’t just write the check and wait. He kept showing up, kept auditioning, kept putting in the work.
Most creatives don’t wake up one morning and decide to quit. It’s quieter than that. You tell yourself you’ll take a short break… and suddenly, three months have passed, and you haven’t written a word, painted a stroke, or played a single chord. You scroll instead of sketch. You think about creating more than you actually create. And the worst part? It doesn’t feel like quitting.
That’s how complacency works. It doesn’t scream; it whispers. It tells you that you’ve earned the break, that you’re just “waiting on inspiration,” that you’ll get back to it soon. But Romans 12:11 doesn’t say, “Be creative when you feel like it.” It says, Do not be slothful in zeal. Be fervent in spirit. Serve the Lord.
Maybe you’re waiting for motivation, but motivation is waiting for you to move. Maybe you’re praying for God to rekindle your passion, but He’s been nudging you to take the first step. Maybe your next breakthrough isn’t on the other side of a perfect plan—it’s on the other side of simply starting.
God didn’t give you creativity so it could collect dust. He gave it to you as a tool to serve, to glorify, to express His beauty in ways only you can. And that starts now—not later, not when you feel ready, not when life slows down. Now.
🙏 PRAYER:
Father, shake me out of my creative slumber. Help me fight the temptation to coast and remind me why You placed this passion in me in the first place. Give me the courage to show up, even when it’s hard, and the perseverance to keep going when I want to quit. Let my creativity be an offering, not an afterthought. Amen.
💡 TIP OF THE WEEK:
🚀 The "No Zero Days" Rule: Decide today that you won’t let a single day pass without doing something creative. It doesn’t have to be big. Doodle for five minutes. Jot down a few lyrics. Snap one photo. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s momentum. Small, consistent steps will keep your creative fire from dying out!
THAT’S IT FOR THIS WEEK’S DROP!
