BOOST #118: Before You Quit Creating, Read This First ⚠️
A reminder for those who are tired of the cost
💖 DEVOTIONAL:
"For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?"— Luke 14:28 (ESV)
No one talks about the hidden costs of creativity. The emotional energy. The late nights. The vulnerability of putting something out there and wondering if anyone will care—or worse, if they'll misunderstand. Sometimes we romanticize the idea of “God-given gifts” and forget they often come wrapped in discomfort, discipline, and dying to self.
Jesus’ words in Luke 14 weren’t about art, but they still apply. Before building anything—whether it’s a tower or a body of creative work—He invites us to count the cost. Not to scare us, but to ground us. He knew that following Him would require sacrifice, and let’s be honest: so does making meaningful art.
Maybe you’ve already felt it. The tension of choosing time with God over chasing trends. The ache of creating from conviction instead of copying what’s popular. The frustration of doing things the right way when shortcuts feel faster. These aren’t signs you’re doing it wrong—they’re signs you’re doing it faithfully.
God is not calling you to a life of burnout, but He is calling you to walk the road with eyes wide open. To know what it will take and still say yes. Because the cost is real—but so is the reward. And the reward isn’t likes, shares, or sales (though those may follow as grace, not the goal). It’s intimacy with the One who gave you the idea in the first place.
God’s Kingdom reminds us that nothing offered to God is wasted. Every quiet yes, every private struggle, every moment of obedience—it all matters. Count the cost. And if you’re still in? Build anyway.
🙏 PRAYER:
Jesus, thank You for reminding me that the cost of following You—and creating with You—is worth it. Help me not to be afraid of what faithfulness might require. Give me eyes to see the long view, the courage to endure, and the grace to keep going even when it's hard. May every creative sacrifice I make draw me closer to You. Amen.
💡 TIP OF THE WEEK:
Make a “Why I Started” list.
This week, take 10 minutes to write down why you started creating in the first place—your heart behind it, the people you hoped to serve, the God you wanted to honor. Keep this list somewhere visible. The cost will feel heavy some days, but remembering your “why” can keep you grounded in purpose instead of performance.
