A devotional for creatives who forgot how to play
💖 DEVOTIONAL:

There was a time you couldn’t wait to do this. To create. To build. To express. You didn’t need a reason—it just flowed. Then the shift happens. What once felt like freedom now feels like a checklist. What once filled your soul now leaves you drained.
This is what happens when joy quietly turns into obligation.
And it happens subtly. Not because you stopped loving the work, but because expectations crept in. Deadlines multiplied. Praise turned into pressure. Passion got buried under productivity.
For Christian creatives, this can feel especially disorienting. You know you’re called. You know this gift is from God. But if you're honest, it hasn’t felt like a gift lately—it’s felt like a job you can’t quit.
In Psalm 51, David isn’t asking for new skills, new opportunities, or even new inspiration. He asks God to restore joy. That’s a prayer we rarely pray as creatives—but it might be the one we most need.
You’re not broken for feeling weary in what you love. You’re just human. And joy isn’t something you earn back through hustle. It’s something God restores in the quiet, honest places.
Let Him meet you there. Let Him remind you what it felt like when creating wasn’t about outcomes—but delight.
🙏 PRAYER:
God, I miss the joy. I miss the ease and play and wonder. Help me grieve what I’ve lost and open my heart again to what You want to restore. Bring me back to the love I had at first. Amen.
