BOOST #161: I Was Expecting a Different Answer 🎼
A reminder that art shapes hearts more than we realize
💖 DEVOTIONAL:
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly… singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.”
Colossians 3:16 (ESV)
A few days ago, I was talking with my five year old daughter, and somehow our conversation drifted to God’s love. Out of curiosity, I asked her, “How do you know that God loves you?” I was ready for her to quote a Bible story from her children’s Bible. Or a lesson from her kid’s devotional. We have trained her to read Scripture regularly which is why I expected something theological. Instead, she smiled and said, “I know… because it says so in a song.”
A song.
It caught me off guard. I know that the Word of God is powerful on its own. It is living and active. But in that moment, I saw how deeply truth can take root when it is carried through creativity. The message of God’s love had settled into her heart through melody and repetition. She did not just memorize information. She absorbed it.
That is the quiet power of art and creativity. A lyric can linger long after a sermon ends. A melody can carry theology into places pure information sometimes struggles to reach. Creativity becomes a vessel. It wraps truth in beauty. It makes doctrine sing. And when truth sings, it often stays.
As Christian creatives, this should humble and encourage us. What we make matters more than we realize. A song, a poem, a visual, a story might be the way someone remembers who God is when they need it most. Not because art replaces Scripture, but because it helps Scripture travel into the heart.
So keep creating. Keep writing. Keep designing. You never know which piece will become someone’s anchor in a moment of doubt. My daughter reminded me that sometimes, the truths we labor over are carried forward in the simplest forms. A song. A line. A brushstroke. And God uses it all.
🙏 PRAYER:
Father, thank You for the gift of creativity and the way it carries Your truth into our hearts. Help me steward my art faithfully. Let the things I create reflect who You are and point others back to Your love. Use my small offerings to plant seeds that last far beyond what I can see. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
💡 APPLICATION:
